How to Speed Up a slow loading WebSite

I think we have all be in a situation where a website or web page that you are dying to access is not responding at all, or only slowly that it almost becomes unbearable to wait. But there are things that you can do that may speed up the loading of the web pages you are interested in, and some may even help you if a website is down or unavailable in your location.

Keep in mind though that you can’t go faster than the maximum speed of your Internet connection. If that is already maxed out, for instance by a download in the background, you may need to temporarily pause those activities to access the sites you are interested in.

Lets take a look at some of the options that you have to speed up access to a website that you want to load in your browser.

1. Browser Tools

Sometimes, a website loads slow because of items that it loads that are not really relevant to the actual contents that you want to access. This can be advertisements, widgets that load information from other websites, or a photo gallery that is displayed on every page of the website. The following browser tools can improve the loading time in various ways if that is the case.

• Adblocking – If advertisements are the culprit, you may want to consider blocking ads on the website to speed it up. Adblock Plus is available for Google Chrome and Firefox, and you can use it to block ads automatically or only on select websites. Opera users can try the Opera AdBlock add-on, and Internet Explorer the Simple Adblock plugin.
• Scripts – Sometimes scripts that are not ads are the culprit. Many ad blockers miss those, and while you may have options to add them manually to the blocker’s blacklist, a tool likeNoScript may be the better solution since it is automatically blocking all scripts that a website tries to load.

• Caching – If a website is not available at that moment in time, you may want to try loading a cached version of it. While you can do that manually as well, you can make use of browser extensions such as CacheIt for the Firefox web browser or Passive Cache for Chrome to improve the process.
• Proxies -  A website may sometimes be available only to users in select countries, for instance if the site operators have configured it to block requests from certain locations in the world. Other reasons may be that a country or ISP is blocking access to a site, or if a regional Internet hub is currently experiencing issues. Proxies may aid in this case to circumvent the issue. You will find add-ons for individual proxy services, and extensions that let you configure and switch proxy servers more easily in the browser. Among the options are Proxy Switchy for Google Chrome or FoxyProxy for Firefox.
• Opera Turbo – Opera Turbo combines a proxy server with a server that is compressing the Internet traffic to speed things up. It is an excellent option for user on slow Internet connections.

2. Browser Settings

Sometimes all you need to do is make changes to certain browser settings to speed things up. Lets take a look at some of the options:

• Disable – You can disable various items, like the loading of images or JavaScript in your browser. This alone can be enough to speed up the loading of a website. You find those settings in your browser’s preferences. Firefox users for instance by clicking Firefox > Options, Chrome users by loading this page in their browser: chrome://chrome/settings/
• Speed Up – Increase the maximum number of connections and various other settings that may improve the time it takes to download all elements of a web page to your local system. Internet Explorer users can use Tweak IE for that, Firefox users FasterFox and Google Chrome users FastestChrome.

3. Services

Services allow you to make use of some of the options that browser extensions offer without installing anything in the browser first. This can be useful in situations where you simply are not allowed to install add-ons to a browser, or where you prefer not to do so.

• Web Proxy – A web proxy can be one of the easiest options to access a slow loading or blocked website. You find a large selection of proxy servers over at Proxy.org which you can try out. Keep in mind though that you direct all traffic through that site, at least in the browser tab that you have opened the proxy in. It is therefor usually not recommended to use proxies to enter financial information or log in to web services.
• Coral CDN – This is a specialized service that you can try to access a cached version of a web page. Just visit the site and enter the web address that you want to load. If the site has been cached, you will see its cached copy on the screen.
• The Wayback Machine – This service is rather limited, but nevertheless worth a try if other options have failed. It basically can display a cached static copy of a web page that you try to access, provided that it has been to that page before and saved it.
• Google Cache – This is probably the most reliable option when it comes to caches. Just search for the web page that you want to visit in Google, hover your mouse over the result, click on the right arrows that appear, and select Cached from the options there.

• Virtual Private Networks – VPNs are great, not only because of the security they add to your connection, but also because they act as a proxy of their own. If a particular website or service is not available in your country, or blocked all the time, you can utilize a VPN to access those contents. There are limited free options available, like Hotspot Shield orTunnelbear, and commercial services that start at a few Dollars a month.
• LoBand – A free service that strips out everything but the pure HTML page, thus improving your connectivity to a website.  Mowser is a comparable service.
• DNS Server – Sometimes DNS servers can be really slow, or even block access to pages on the Internet. You can use a program like DNS Benchmark to test various public providers to see which one is the fastest, or switch to a service like Google DNS or Open DNS right away. via[ghacks]

How To Remove GOM Player Pop-Up Ads And Browser Toolbar

I have been using GOM player from a long time now for the obvious reason- its versatility. Recent update however, came with Pop-Up ad window which comes up when I exit and also it forcibly install unwanted Browser Toolbar (AVG or Ask in some versions).

I agree that when product is offered for free, they somehow need to earn something from Advertisements but these ads are quite annoying for the sole reason- they are irrelevant and not interesting. Here is a solution by which you can block or remove Pop-Up Advertisement on GOM player.

How to Block and Remove Pop-Up Ads from GOM Player

To Remove Popup, you just have remove the file responsible for creating this Pop-Up. And this File is located in Installation Folder.

Go to C:\Program Files\GRETECH\GomPlayer. It can be Program Files (x86) in case of 64 Bit Widows installation. Find the file named: popup.exe in this folder and delete it. Make sure you are logged in as Administrator to carry out this operation.

This is a permanent solution to get rid of pop-ups on GOM player but if you think that you may find something interesting someday on these ads then it can also be done. You can see the popup once a day by checking on “Don’t show any more ads today” at the bottom of popup window.

How to Remove Toolbar installed with GOM Player

Toolbar is forcibly installed on web browsers (Internet Explorer and Firefox) along with GOM Player. It may be AVG or Ask or any other which you may find useless.

To remove that, you should disable the addon (CTRL+Shift+A in case of Firefox) and change the default search engine of browser.

Complete removal then can be followed by uninstalling it from “Programs and Features” from Control Panel. There you will find an application name “AVG Security Toolbar” as in my case but can be Ask Toolbar in some other users.

You may have to perform these steps again when you update GOM Player to latest version each time. Same Trick will continue to work as long as they do not integrate Popups in main application.via[blogsolute]

How To Access And Download Torrents When ISP / Network Admin Blocks P2P Traffic

Torrents are most popular way to download Pirate Movies, Music and Software. This led to blocking of Torrent download and sites hosting them. Downloading in traditional way using Torrent client becomes impossible where network admin has blocked P2P traffic.

We already covered How to Access Blocked Websites at Work, School, College, etc. In this article, we will discuss on How to unblock and access Torrent sites or Public trackers and also download Torrents.

How to access Torrent Sites and Search Engines

First thing which ISP did (in India) is blocking major Torrent search engines like Torrentz.eu and many more including ThePiratebay.se It can be unblocked and accessed to search and download torrents using following ways:

1. Change DNS

Switch from ISP default DNS to Google DNS or Open DNS. You have to change Computer Network Connection settings to use their DNS Server addresses instead of default. This instantly unblocks access to all sites which were blocked by Court Orders.

2. Use Proxy

This is popular solution and doesn’t need administrator privileges. Access the desired website to download torrents via Proxy servers. Quick Google Search to find Proxy sites will give you number of results for Proxy sites (HideMyAss.com is my favorite). Go to Proxy site first and enter the URL you want to access i.e. Torrent site (thepiratebay.se).

3. Use VPN

Virtual Private Networks is another solution quite sophisticated than using proxy. Not just accessing Torrent site but also it can be used to actually download Torrent using Torrent client on a network where P2P traffic is blocked. Free VPN are often unreliable and offer less speed. I personally use ibVPN to overcome country specific restrictions.

How to Download via Torrents when P2P Traffic is Blocked

This is a case of elevated restrictions on Torrents often seen in school, college, education institutes, office and at enterprise level. Here, even though you can access Torrent sites but torrent client won’t be able to download torrent when queued up because the Protocol is disabled.

This is the reason I suggested to enable Encryption in uTorrent while discussing uTorrent download speed increasing tips so that ISP couldn’t recognize the P2P traffic. But, there are chances that you are still detected on network and couldn’t download so, here are other ways to bypass this restriction.

1. Web Torrent Client – Bitlet

If you cannot download and install Torrent client or if P2P Torrent Traffic is blocked then use Torrent client Web UI in your web browser without installing anything.

1a. Java Based Web UI

Bitlet.org is a Java based Torrent client on Browser. Just upload .torrent file from local computer or enter URL where it is hosted and download begins.

1b. Browser Plugin

Littleshoot is a P2P plugin which allows you to download bittorrent files right from your browser.

2. Download Torrent via HTTP

When P2P protocol isn’t supported, you can download torrent content to some server (remote computer) and then download that file via HTTP on your computer. You have two options to do that either setup your own seedbox (own server i.e. Virtual Private Server) or use dedicated services.

2a. Setting up Seedbox

You need your own Hosting space with PHP support. There are scripts available to control Torrent downloading via Web UI remotely. For example: TorrentFux, ruTorrent, etc. Learn more about setting up Seedbox on Web Server.

2b. Using Dedicated Services

Torrenthandler is a web service which lets you download torrent content via HTTP. What they actually do is content is first downloaded on their servers and then you can download t via direct HTTP link using download managers.

ZbigZ is also a handy service to download torrent via HTTP. It also works on the same concept as Torrenthandler. The main advantage is the ease of use and support for free account. The download speed is pretty descent with resume support.

If in case you face trouble while putting the torrent link, just download the torrent file on your computer and upload it to ZbigZ. Download will start in a while as the file is downloaded to their servers.

Both of the above solutions guarantees anonymity, bypasses P2P Torrent restrictions and offers faster download as compared to direct torrent download which is mainly dependent on Seed Peer ratio.

If you are too much worried about Upload ratio only then there are services to increase ratio on torrent trackers without uploading.

OpenStudy is a free web site that helps you connect with other people on the Internet to help you study online via Q&A. It is possibly one of the coolest things I have seen in a long time, because it is so simple and powerful in both concept and design. There’s a lot of free web sites out there for education and many of them are great, but this one truly stands out to my eye as an excellent achievement in sense and usefulness. 

OpenStudy.com is a website that, essentially, allows people to connect with each other with the purpose of teaching and learning. From writing to physics, chemistry to history, OpenStudy probably has some people on there who can help you learn about it, and what’s better, they can help you in specific ways with direct answers to questions you might have. Just as, ideally, a teacher would do, if you were in the same room with them. When you’re in a classroom, you can raise your hand, ask the teacher a question, and get an answer, presumably and usually. Well OpenStudy is much like that in some ways.

You’ll need to start by registering for your free account, which can take two minutes or much longer, depending on how much time you want to spend filling out your bio/profile information. That’s up to you, but you can easily be done in just a couple of minutes if you don’t go into a lot of depth on that particular section. Also, you can register using your Facebook account if you’d like, as so many sites are now doing. Once your account is created, you’ll be able to jump right in and start asking and answering questions of the other people on OpenStudy. You can even connect those questions to a Tweet and/or Facebook post.

To start with, you’ll choose a subject you want to study. Don’t worry, you can study as many as you want and it costs nothing, ever, so pick whatever you want to learn about without reservation. This is truly, in my eyes, one of the best reasons the Internet was created in the first place. Science fiction writers like Heinlein and Bradbury, Gibson and Asimov and more I am sure, had all predicted something like the Internet and, moreover, predicted the future would be a better place because of them, in essence. That may sound a bit high-minded or lofty wishing, but if you take a moment to think about it, you may see that the easier it is for each of us to become educated and ‘smart’, then the better our society in general will advance and the overall quality of life will improve. Isn’t that what drives us all? So, to me, this website is a great representative of why the Internet is important to the human race.

So, once you’ve chosen a subject, you’re given two columns that take up most of the screen. These consist of Questions, on the left hand side, and You can ask your own question, like you see I did in the screen shots. On the right hand side is a listing of members currently online who are also studying the same subject you’re currently in. At the bottom of that you can see tabs for the other subjects you’re studying. That’s the screen, basically. You can pick a question on the left side and offer your own answer for it, as well as read previous answers, or you can post your very own question and get answers from other people. There’s a round robin kind of time system they use to ‘bump’ questions, but it works out quite well, from what I could see.

That’s the heart of OpenStudy. There’s not much more to it than that, but that is what makes it so good. It is simple and powerful if people decide to use it. We can all take a few minutes a day to help someone else learn something, and that’s a thing we can all feel good about at the end of that day.The central methodology is almost Socratic. Ask questions, get answers, and ponder them. OK, so not all questions are deep thinking marvels, like “What is the difference between effect and affect?” but those are still very important to answer because whoever asked it, presumably, genuinely wants to know the answer, to further his or her understanding of that subject, and perhaps ultimately, the universe in general. How to Stop Two YouTube Videos From Playing Simultaneously

If you have ever opened two web pages with embedded Youtube videos you know that it can happen that both videos start buffering and playing at the same time. That’s obviously a big issue as you can’t watch two videos with audio at the same time. Well, you can but it is not a pleasant thing to do, usually.

You do have a few options at your disposal to prevent that multiple YouTube videos start playing and buffering at the same time. The first option is click to play. This is a native feature that web browsers like Opera offer their users to prevent the automatic loading of plugin contents in the Internet browser.

This is an update to How To Stop Video Autoplay On Youtube which I have published in 2010. Several of the scripts and extensions are still available so that you can check it out as well for even more solutions.

Click to Play

Opera users need to enable the click to play functionality before it becomes available. This is done with a click on the Opera button in the top left corner, and the selection of Settings >Preferences, or with the hotkey Ctrl-F12.

Click on the Advanced tab in the preferences window, and there on Content in the left sidebar. Locate Enable plug-ins only on demand and check the option. Close the window again with a click on ok.

Chrome users can enable click to play in their browser as well. The easiest way to enable the option is to load chrome://chrome/settings/content in the address bar. You need to scroll down then until you see the Plug-ins preference, and enable the Click to play option there.

Mozilla plans to add click to play in one of the upcoming Firefox releases.

Browser Add-ons

If your web browser or choice is not supporting click to play, or if you prefer a different solution that does not require that much manual intervention to start videos in the browser, you’d may want to look for add-ons instead. Here is a selection of add-ons and userscripts that you can install in your browser to stop YouTube videos from playing automatically.

YouTube Center – The userscript is compatible with Chrome and Firefox. It displays preferences underneath the video on YouTube allowing you to configure it. Among the options are settings to disable auto-play and auto-buffering on YouTube, effectively stopping videos from playing simultaneously.

YouTube Options for Google Chrome – This Chrome extension can be used to disable auto-play (but bypass it if a playlist is played) and auto buffering on YouTube.

Yousable Tube Fix – This userscript works in Chrome, Firefox and Opera. It can be used to stop autoplay and autobuffering, and a lot of other things.

Youtube AutoPlay Stopper – This Firefox add-on stops YouTube videos from auto playing. It basically adds click to play to Firefox on YouTube.

Closing Words

There is no solution that auto plays one video, and stops all others from playing while that one video plays on YouTube or a third party site where it has been embedded on. Blocking videos from playing automatically has the side effect, that you will also stop them from buffering, which can be beneficial in case you are using a slow Internet connection, or if a YouTube video is once again buffering slowly.via[ghacks]

How To Recover Deleted Hotmail Emails

Microsoft has implemented two fail safe mechanisms when it comes to deleting emails in Hotmail. Emails that you delete in Microsoft’s email service are first moved to the deleted folder. This is similar to the way files are deleted in Windows. The idea here is to give you an option to recover emails that you may have accidentally deleted, or emails that you have deleted but need to access at a later point in time again.

A click on deleted in the sidebar displays all email messages that you have deleted in Hotmail and not yet removed from that folder.

Recover Deleted Hotmail Emails

You can recover emails in the deleted emails folder by dragging and dropping them into another folder. It is important to check all emails that you want to move from the deleted folder into another one if you want to move more than one email from the folder. While you could move all emails individually, it is usually more convenient to mark all emails and move them at once.

Emails that you delete in Hotmail’s deleted folder are not necessarily deleted permanently. This may come as a surprise to Hotmail users who thought that deleted emails would as a result be unrecoverable.

When you look at the bottom of the screen, you will notice the following message there:

Lost a message? When you recover deleted messages, we bring back as many as we can. Learn More.

The recover deleted messages sends a command to Hotmail to recover as many deleted emails as possible. While you do not get a guarantee that emails can be recovered, it can mean that you or someone else can recover emails that you thought were deleted permanently. As with all things tech, this can be used for good and bad purposes.

Microsoft does not reveal much about the process. The company fails to state the criteria (e.g. time, space or other constraints) that it uses to recover previously deleted emails.

The help page notes that the deleted folder gets cleaned up regularly, and that the option has been primarily been designed to give users an option to recover emails after hacking attacks (as hackers may delete all messages of an account).

There is however an option to stop Hotmail from offering to recover deleted messages. Click on the Options link in the upper right corner of the screen, and selected More Options from the context menu.

Click on advanced privacy settings under customizing Hotmail, and switch from let me recover deleted messages to don’t let me recover deleted messages – once they leave the Deleted folder, don’t give me a link to get them back under deleted messages here.

Click the Save button in the end to save the new preference. Emails that you delete in the deleted folder from that moment on, can’t be recovered anymore. via [ghacks]
