Apple iTV is in production for release in the second half of 2012

Apple iTV, what it could do, and whether it’s going to become a reality has been on the minds of many after Steve Jobs’ biography came out. In it, Jobs revealed, “I’d like to create an integrated television set that is completely easy to use. It would be seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud. It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine. I finally cracked it.”
The article describes a patent Apple filed in April 2010 titled “real time video process control using gestures” which essentially describes how a person would interact with a television set using gestures. You can edit video, move video from one device to another, and even recognize faces in the video. Some believe that Siri will have a place in the Apple iTV as well.
According to analyst Peter Misek at the American bank Jefferies, Japanese firm Sharp has been asked to begin production of Apple iTV screens in February 2012, with the devices available in the second half of 2012. Senior engineer Jeff Robbin, iTunes lead software designer, is reported to be overseeing the project.
Supposedly, Apple has taken over an entire Sharp factory in Japan to create displays for the next-generation iPhones and iPads, which will be brighter and more battery efficient. They’ll also use this same factory to make the displays for the Apple iTV and have spent between 500 million and 1 billion dollars refitting the factory to their specifications.
It should come as no surprise that Apple declined to comment, and for all of the speculation and what little information we have, no one knows what the Apple iTV will be like or why Steve Jobs was so excited at having figured out how to make an integrated television set. Via -Guardian.co.uk
